Furniture Resource Centre set for contract renewal

Plans for the Furniture Resource Centre in Liverpool to renew a deal with Liverpool City Council look set to move ahead.

The Liverpool Citizens Support Scheme provides furniture and domestic appliances to those who are vulnerable and on a low income, allowing them to re-equip an existing home in a crisis or support them to move into somewhere new.

The existing contract – which is facilitated through the Procurement For Housing Framework – is with the Furniture Resource Centre and commenced on 1 May 2018.

This was for an initial 12-month period with an option to extend for a further two sets of 12 months. The value is about £2m a year.

Approval is now being sought from Liverpool City Council's Cabinet to take up the option to extend the Furniture Resource Centre deal from 1 May 2020 to 30 April 2021.

"An alternative option would have been to undertake a full procurement exercise via the OJEU process," said a report to Cabinet.

"However, this would have been costly and time consuming, and the incumbent supplier is the only known organisation that can supply, deliver, and install domestic appliances as part of the contract."
